Rawlings Grand Slam wraps up in Saskatoon

The Softball Canada Rawlings Grand Slam event wrapped up in Saskatoon on Sunday.

In the Men's division, the Bear Creek Express, representing Ontario with two GOFL players (Joran Graham and Matt Greer) and a local coach (Scott Searle) finished third of ten teams. On Sunday they won an exciting quarter-final game 8-6 over the Grande Prairie Pirates, featuring a walk off homer by Travis Jones but then fell 12-5 to the Sooke Loggers in the semi-final.  The Saskatoon Angels ended up beating Sooke in the final.

In the U23 Men's division, the Owen Sound Selecta defeated Newfoundland to take the title. James Martell (Manotick Brewers, GOFL), who formerly played for Napanee Express, was on the Selects. Connor Brooks, a pick up from Napanee U19 team was named top hitter and another former Express player Riley Manion was named top pitcher.

Congratulations as well to former GOFLer and current Softball Canada staffer Mike Branchaud on organizing a successful tournament.
