West Carleton beats Manotick 8-5

West Carleton Electric defeated the understaffed Manotick Brewers 8-5 in Manotick on Wednesday night play in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League.

Trevor Lahey had the win for the 'Trics, with relief from 16 year old Gabe Brown in his GOFL pitching debut. Tyler Alexander went the distance for the Brewers.

WC got on the board in the top of the first on a Chris Costello home run. They added to their lead with a five run second frame. Lahey led off with a double. After a strikeout, he scored on Owen Brown's triple. Following a ground out, Costello walked. Neil Murphy then singled to score Brown. Shawn Rebertz singled to score Costello. Both Rebertz and Murphy scored on a misplayed fly ball hit by Hugh Murray, to make it 6-0.

The Electric pushed the lead to eight in the top of the fourth. Adam Brown's fly ball was misplayed, but he was put out on a fielder's choice hit by Costello. A walk to Murphy put two on, and they both scored on Murray's double.

The home team answered with a run in the bottom of four. Riley Dunbar reached second via an error and scored on Ryan Clare's single.

Gabe Brown started pitching in the bottom of five and had trouble finding the plate. Manotick scored four runs on a hit batsmen and five walks. Alexander also had an RBI single in the inning. However Brown settled down in the sixth and seventh, and the Trics prevailed with the 8-5 win.

West Carleton finishes the season at 3-7, and Manotick at 5-5. The two teams will meet in the playoff bracket on Wednesday September 22 at 9 p.m. in Manotick.
