Valley As come back to tie Electric 4-4

The Ottawa Valley As scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie West Carleton Electric 4-4 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Thursday in Carp.

Ben Broek went the distance for Valley on the slab while Steve Cavanagh had the ball for WC.

West Carleton got off to a big start in the top of the first. Chris Costello singled with one out. Chris Trafford reached base on a passed ball third strike, which allowed Costello to score. A single by Hugh Murray was followed by Neil Murphy's single which plated Trafford. Jeff Campbell then singled to load the bases. Broek got out of the inning with a ground ball resulting in an out at the plate and a strike out.

Valley threatened in the third after a single by Connor Armstrong and a misplayed ground, but a timely 5-3 double play helped to end the threat.

The Electric scored another run in the fourth. Steve Cavanagh doubled off the left field fence to start the inning. A ground out moved Cavanagh to third. Owen Brown's single up the middle scored Cavanagh to make it 3-0.

The visitors scored their fourth run in the fifth. Murphy reached based on a passed ball third strike with two out and made it to second base. He took third on a wild pitch and scored when Jeff Cavanagh hit a chopper.

The home team once again looked like they may score in the sixth. Broek and Ryley Burns started the inning with back to back singles. A 5-4 double play was big defensively to help the Trics.

WC had a chance to make the lead bigger in the seventh. Murray reached on an error, Murphy singled, and Jeff Cavanagh singled to load the bases with none out. A strike out, followed by a 6-2-5 double play ended the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, down 4-0, the Valley As rallied back for the second time this season. Connor Armstrong started off the inning with a double, his third straight hit of the night. Cole Ross singled, driving in Armstrong. Then Brendan Coker hit an infield single. After a strikeout, Broek hit a three run shot to tie the game. Valley contined to press with a Burns single, a long flyout and man reaching on error, but Cavanagh got a strikeout to end the game tied 4-4.
