Stittsville wins Consolation title at U17 Elims
The Stittsville 56ers won the Consolation title at the Ontario Amateur Softball Association U17 boys' Elimination tournament in Stratford on the weekend.
The event had 15 teams, with the top four to represent Ontario at the Softball Canada nationals in Fredericton, NB in August.
The 56ers, who play in the Glen Cairn Men's Fastball League, lost their first two to be removed from contention for a berth at nationals but then won three straight to won the Consolation bracket at the event.
The first game was a 7-1 loss on Friday evening against PDP Lightning from Drumbo, the team that ended up finishing first overall. That was followed by a 13-8 loss to Elmira on Saturday morning.
Stittsville then won two on Saturday, beating Oshawa 12-3 and Stratford 10-3. In the bracket final on Sunday morning, just before the rain started, the 56ers beat Wellesley 9-2.
