Valley Thumps C.B.U. - White-Haired Tandem Wins Again
OTTAWA—The Valley Raiders beat C.B.U. Publishing 8-2 last night at the RA Centre. Valley now enjoys a four-game winning streak with two games remaining in the regular season.
‘SWEETIE, SWEETIE, SWEETIE’
Much to the pleasure of right fielder Lukas Kamps, Valley’s starter Gary Cavanagh sported his #16 white jersey on Wednesday. Cavanagh allowed one run in the second inning and one run in the third. Throughout his four strongly pitched innings, Cavanagh endured crazy catcalls from right field.
“Sweet 16! Hey Sweetie! C’mon Sweetie!”
Veteran Gord Flannery collected the save for Valley. He pitched two innings, allowing no runs on one hit. He registered three strikeouts.
A FIRST INNING HIT PARADE!
Valley’s offence opened the game with a five-run first inning. Kamps led the charge by reaching base on a single. Will Mood followed with a devastating two-run homerun. Brett Dugan followed the moon-shot with a single. Tyler Cox and David Millette then reached base on walks. Derek Bergeron reached base on an error on which Dugan scored. Cavanagh then stepped to the plate with two outs. Cavanagh helped his own cause by hitting a monster two-run single. Valley exited the first inning with a 5-0 lead.
SECOND INNING DAGGER
Valley’s strong offence continued from the first inning into the second. Mood led off with a walk. Brett Dugan then punched a double to advance Mood to third base. Tyler Cox then slapped a two-run double into right field. Tyler Cox scored from second on an RBI single from catcher Shawn Moher. After two complete innings, the score was 8-1 in favor of Valley.

RC Gets Win, Bulley Takes Loss
OTTAWA—The Valley Raiders beat C.B.U. Publishing 4-1 last night at the RA Centre. Valley now enjoys a three-game winning streak.
STRONG PITCHING FROM RC AND GORD
Ryan Cox got the nod for Valley on Monday night. He pitched five complete innings, allowing no runs on three hits. He struck out six CBU batters and allowed no walks. Gord Flannery pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Valley. Flannery was effective, allowing no earned runs on three hits and no walks.
C.B.U.’s only run came in the sixth inning after a batter reached base on a dropped third strike that evaded Valley’s catcher. After reaching first, the C.B.U. player advanced to second on a fielder’s choice and then scored on a ground-rule double.
THIRD INNING HEROICS
All of Valley’s runs came in the third inning. The rally started when captain Roy Black led off the inning with a walk. Shortstop Chad Milne followed with another base-on-balls. Third baseman Tyler Cox then attempted to sacrifice bunt but reached base when the C.B.U. first baseman dropped the throw. Black scored on the error. Valley then scored two runs when centerfielder Brett Dugan doubled. Valley’s fourth run came when second baseman Rich Antunes singled.
