Orleans finishes 5th at Midget nationals
Congrats to Orleans Midgets on a very good showing at Nationals.....and thanks to Jeff Langford for the excellent reports:
Orleans finished the Midget Champions going 1-1 in the playoff round. Orleans beat the host team Prince Albert Aallcann Astros 3-2 in the first game. Chad Hargrove got the win scattering 6 hits over 7 innings. Kurtis Summers had a 2 run home run, and Brian Friesen had a RBI single to drive in the Orleans runs.
Orleans met the Port Alberni Blazers in the next game but had no answers for the Blazer’s hitting or pitching, losing 11-0 in 5 innings. Orleans managed only 3 hits over 5 innings against Tyson Barkman from the Blazers. Chad Hargrove took the loss with some relief help from Nick Bowman.
The Napanee Express saved their best for playoff Saturday winning 2 games against higher seeds. The Express beat the Sooke Royals 6-4, the Scarborough Royals 9-7 before losing to Port Alberni 9-8 in the bottom of the seventh in their 3rd game on Saturday.
The official results are not out yet because there are still games to play on Sunday but Napanee should be 4th and Orleans should finish 6th overall. The Saskatchewan First Nations team (FSIN), the Leduc Landmark 747s and the Port Alberni Blazers remain in the hunt for medals on Sunday. NOTE: They finished 5th.
Overall the Midget Championships was just a great experience for the Orleans Rebels. The team played well against some very good competition. The tournament organization and the facilities were really outstanding. We also got to experience ‘western hospitality’ first hand and we could not have been treated any better.
