Manotick defeats Greely 4-1

from Tyler Cox, www.tylercox.ca

GREELY VILLAGE, OSGOODE WARD--On Monday night, Greely was the site of an all-Ottawa South fastball battle. The Greater Ottawa Fastball League's (GOFL) Greely DNTW Eagles played host to the visiting Manotick Lomor Printers. Manotick earned bragging rights in the end, defeating Greely 4-1.

EDGERTON BATS 1.000 For Manotick
Shannon Borho started on the mound for the Eagles. He pitched the first four innings, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks. Ryan Cox relieved Borho in the fifth inning, pitching the remaining three innings. Cox allowed one run on six hits and one walk.

Steve Edgerton led the Printers offensively, frustrating the Eagles' pitchers along the way. Edgerton was 4-4 with four singles that landed just beyond the infield. Printers' captain Tony Riches commented on Edgerton's performance.

"(Edgerton ) has been great so far this season," said Tony. "He is six for seven in the first two games."

Smith Stikes-Out Fifteen Eagles
The Eagles were surprised to face Jason Smith on Monday night. Smith, a hard-throwing right-hander, pitches all over North America. He recorded fifteen (15) strikeouts on Monday night, allowing one run on one hit and two walks in seven innings pitched.

The Eagles' lone run came in the fifth inning when Mike Savoie walked and later scored on a series of passed balls. Despite the run, the Eagles were unable to build any momentum against Smith. Eagles' infielder Stéphane Vinette commented on the misfortune of facing Smith in the Eagles' second-ever game.

"Frankly, we were unlucky to face (Smith) tonight," said Vinette. "He only pitched one game for Manotick last year."

Overall, it was a good ball game for players and fans. After the game, the Eagles were happy to meet some first-time fans who had enjoyed the evening's fastball action.

The Eagles will look to rebound on Wednesday night when the travel to Manotick to face the Ottawa Blitz. This game has the making of another rivalry. A few Eagles played for the Blitz in 2007 before leaving to form the Greely club.

The Eagles do not have a home game on Monday, May 19. They will will be on the road next week in Orleans and Fitzroy Harbour on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
