from Shawn Laframboise

Standings updated on the website.

Friday June 6 - Micksburg Sr Twins 4 Micksburg Jr Twins 5

The Micksburg Jr Twins got their first win of the season, defeating the more experienced Micksburg team by a score of 5 - 4. Joran Graham pitched all seven innings in earning the victory (week before he left for Yukon). Jamey Mick got the nod for The Sr team and was relieved by Gary Hawkins who took the loss.

The game was tied going into the bottom of the seventh, where Adam Stone hit a walk off sacrifice fly to left field to give the Jr Twins their first victory of the season.

Sunday June 8 - Micksburg Jr Twins 2 Fitzroy/McNab Badham Carpentry 3

The Jr Twins then traveled to McNab for a tilt against the Badham Carpentry team Sunday afternoon. Graham got the nod again for Micksburg while Fitzroy/McNab countered with Andrew Jahn. Jahn got the no-decision and the win went to Troy Wilson who came in to pitch in the third inning.

The Twins got on the board early with a run in the top of the first inning. Billy Stone led-off the game with a walk. After retiring the next two batters on strikes, Jahn surrendered a single to Kyle Sinclair and then a RBI double to Paul Griffith to make it 1-0 Micksburg.

With Micksburg leading 2-1, Jahn helped out his own cause with a two-out solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning, ensuring at least a no-decision on his part. Badham Carpentry wasn't finished however and got the sticks going again in the bottom half of the sixth. Dave Bahm singled and would later score on a RBI single from Mitch Taylor. They would hold on for the 3-2 win.

Wednesday June 11 - Fitzroy/McNab Badham Carpentry 15 Micksburg Sr Twins 9

In a wild shootout in Micksburg, Fitzroy/McNab prevailed to capture the W. Jonathan Regier got the start and took the loss for Micksburg. Jamey Mick saw some action in relief. Shawn Costello started for Fitzroy/McNab, however had to leave the mound in the second inning to what is diagnosed as a "lower body injury". Andrew Jahn replaced Costello on the mound and got credit for the win, throwing three innings. Shawn "Cranko" Ryan came in the close out the last two innings.

With both team swinging hot sticks, it was a close game until the sixth. After five the score was 7-6 in favor of Fitzroy/McNab. Fitzroy/McNab batted through their line-up, plating 8 runs in the top half of the inning, putting the game out of reach. Micksburg answered back with three of their own but it wasn't enough.

Cranko led the balanced attack for Badham Carpentry going 4/5 with three runs scored. All nine Fitzroy/McNab batters scored at least once. Corey Costello led the offence for Micksburg going 1/3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Thursday June 19 - Micksburg Sr Twins 2 Shawville Snappers 2

On a rainy night in Shawville, the Sr Twins and Snappers still managed to get all seven innings in. It hadn't rained a drop in the 'ville until a monsoon hit about fifteen minutes before game time. After a short delay the game got started closer to 9:00.

Corey Costello went the distance for Micksburg and Matt Greer threw all seven for Shawville. Costello threw a gem, giving up only one hit, and three walks, despite playing with a ball that was wet most of the game. Greer gave up only 3 hits across seven innings in a game that had only one earned run between the two teams.

Micksburg got something going right away. In the top of the first, Costello drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two pitches later, a pass ball and a friendly bounce appeared to be enough to get Costello at third, but an error to the third baseman allowed him to score to give Micksburg the lead.

Micksburg held the lead until the bottom of the seventh. Up 2-0, Costello surrendered a lead-off walk to Greer. After taking second on a pass ball, he would score on the Snappers lone hit of the contest, a Steve "Toad" McCord single to right field. McCord took second when the throw went home in an attempt to get Greer. He would eventually take third on another pass ball. With two strikes on the batter, Costello uncorked a wild pitch and McCord broke for home. A close play at the plate saw Toad slide in safely. Costello would proceed to strike out the Shawville batter with the next pitch.

Thursday June 26 - Fitzroy/McNab Badham Carpentry 0 Shawville Snappers 5

Shawville wasted no time getting their game on the right track in this one. Drew Hathway threw the complete game for the Snappers, going 7 strong, striking out 17 batters, and surrendering only 1 hit. Fitzroy/McNab countered with Troy Wilson, who aside from the first inning had a solid outing, but took the loss.

After striking out the side in the first inning, Hathway helped out his own cause lacing a three-run homer to left-center to give the Snappers a 3-run lead after 1.

Shawville added two more in the bottom of the third inning. Shawn Laframboise led off the inning with a solo homerun to straight-away centerfield to increase the lead to 4 runs. Ronnie Laronde followed that up with a double to the gap in right-center. He would later score on a Hathway sac-fly to centerfield.

This weekend will see all four teams in action with a doubleheader Sunday (June 29) afternoon in Micksburg. The Snappers will face the Micksburg Jr Twins at 1:00 with Fitzroy/McNab taking on the Sr Twins at 3:00.
