WC Electric 7-0 over Greely Eagles
In the second half of a home-and-home, the West Carleton Electric defeated the Greely Eagles 7-0 in five innings in Fitzroy Harbour on Tuesday night. Each of the nine hitters in the WC Electric starting line-up had a hit on the night.
Brad Porter had a no-hitter over five innings of work, while Ryan Cox took the loss with relief from Shannon Borho.
Large rain clouds looked like they may end the game early, but the showers were pushed down the river and the players and fans in the Harbour did not get wet.
Greely threatened in the top of the first when Mike Savoie walked with one out and stole second. However Porter retired the next two batters.
The home team scored two in the first on a Shawn Rebertz home run with Mike Cavanagh on base after a single.
WC Electric scored another in the second when Adam Brown doubled and was brought home on a Jon Daley single.
Rebertz hit another homer in the third, this time a solo shot to put Fitzroy up 4-0. Troy Wilson then walked, and moved to second on a Neil Murphy single. Both runners advanced 60 feet on a wild pitch. Wilson then scored when Brown popped up a ball to the infield that was misplayed.
Daley walked, then advanced to third on a Steve Johnson single, then scored on a Mike Cavanagh sac fly in the fourth to make the score 6-0.
The 7 run mercy rule was invoked in the bottom of the fifth. Jason Cope hit a one-out single for the home team. Brown then hit a single putting runners on first and second. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Big Bud the Spud Hanlon drove in the final run, scoring Cope for the 7-0 victory. Hanlon was celebrating his 35th birthday this night.
