Greely defeats Orleans 5-0

from Tyler Cox

Borho Leads Greely Eagles to Victory
Borho Pitches One-Hitter Against Orleans Gators

GREELY VILLAGE, OTTAWA—On Monday night Greely DNTW Eagles picked up a 5-0 win at home against the Orleans Gators.

Eagles' captain Shannon Borho pitched a spectacular game, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. Over seven innings, he threw 86 pitches. Gators' catcher Matt Bowman earned the walk for Orleans in the second inning.

Borho carried a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning. The bid at the no-no was broken up when Jordan Adams hit a slow seeing-eye single up the middle. Borho was frustrated by the hit, but gave credit to Adams.

"Adams hit a good pitch," said Borho. "It was a nice piece of hitting on his part."

Catcher Pedro Sanchez was behind the plate all game for Borho. He commented on the club's performance.

"Shannon pitched great and our defense was flawless," said Sanchez. "That was our best game of the season."

EAGLES PREY ON GATORS
Offensively, the Eagles had a well balanced attack. Borho helped his own cause in the second inning. He led off the inning with a single off Gators' pitcher Nick Bowman. Borho then moved all the way around the bases to score on three passed balls.

The Eagles' second run came in the third inning when Derek Dummond reached base on balls. He also moved around to score on three passed balls.

The Eagles entered the fifth inning ahead 2-0. A fifth inning rally gave the Eagles more breathing room. Stéphane Vinette led the charge with a one-out single to right field. Eagles' shortstop Mike Savoie was then hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second. Both runners then scored on a triple by Tyler Cox. Borho then drew a walk for the Eagles, putting runners on the corners. Breaking hard for home, Cox then scored on a fielder's choice to the Gators third baseman. The Eagles were now ahead 5-0, which ended up being the final score.

DOUBLEHEADER IN GREELY NEXT WEEK
