Quyon 7 Orleans 0 on Thursday night

from Shawn Laframboise

Quyon 7 Orleans 0

The Quyon Flyers travelled to Orleans to take on the Rebels at Pierre Rocque park Thursday night. Quyon handed the ball to Matt Greer while Orleans turned to Nick Bowman. Derek Bergeron saw some action in relief for the Rebels.

The visiting team jumped out to a hot start. Luke Young led off the inning with a walk. Dennis McCleary followed that up with a bunt, and reached first on the throwing error to the third baseman. This brought big Joe to the plate and as a repeat to Tuesday night, he took the first pitch he saw deep over the right field fence to give Quyon a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the first, Greer struck out three of the first four batters, with Matt Bowman singling to centerfield before being left stranded.

In the second, Jordan Kearns led things off for the Flyers with a walk. After retiring the next two batters, J. McCleary knocked in his fourth run of the game with a single to right field.

The Flyers added another run in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Steve McCord led off with a double to the gap in left-center, however a ground ball to the third baseman by Shawn Laframboise caught McCord off-guard and was tagged out. Matt Greer scored Laframboise all the way from first with a stand-up triple to the gap in right-center.

The Rebels seemed to get a bit of momentum going in the top of the fourth, with both Matt Bowman and Chad Hargrove drawing walks. Greer got the next batter to hit a ground ball to second base, setting up the 4-3 double play.

Joe McCleary added another RBI single, in the top of four, to finish his hot night at the plate. Greer would add a solo homerun in the fifth to help his own cause and solidify the victory.

Greer went five strong, allowing only one hit, three walks, with 9 strikeouts. Bowman had the loss for Orleans, going 3 1/3 innings before handing the ball over to Bergeron.
