Quyon defeats Manotick in Game 1 - with story
from Shawn Laframboise
Quyon took game 1 of their opening round playoff series against the Manotick Printers on Tuesday night. Drew Hathway had the complete game win for Quyon, while Trevor Lahey took the loss for Manotick.
Lahey started off throwing smoke, striking out the first four batters he faced. Hathway broke up the groove in the bottom half of the second inning, helping his own cause, stroking a 1-out solo homerun to straightaway centerfield.
Manotick answered back in the third. With runners on first and second, Joe Allan singled down the first base line. One run came in to score, and Allan advanced to second on the throw from the right fielder.
The game stayed tight for the next two innings, until the Flyers added some insurance in the fifth. Nick Armitage drew a one-out walk to get things going. After retiring the next batter on strikes, Lahey served up an RBI double to Quyon lead-off hitter Luke "Marteau" Young. Shawn Laframboise followed that up with a hard ground ball, scoring Young from second on the throwing error charged to the Manotick shortstop.
Quyon took their two run lead into the bottom of sixth, and tacked on another four. Hathway led things off with a triple and scored on a Cooney Greer RBI single. Jordan "Doesn't Matter" Kearns followed him up and busted out of a long homerun drought with a high fly ball to deep left field, putting Quyon up 6-1. Marteau continued his hot day at the plate with another single to keep the inning alive, and scored on a Laframboise RBI double.
Game 2 is Wednesday August 27 in Manotick, game time TBD.
