WC Electric wins home opener 6-2 over Ottawa Blitz

West Carleton Electric won their home opener Tuesday night with a 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Blitz.

Bud Hanlon had the win for the 'Trics, with Troy Wilson seeing one inning in relief. Jamie Blakely took the loss with relief from Derick Bulley.

The Blitzos started off by scoring two in the first. Russ Mitchell reached on an error and was moved to second on a sac bunt by Ron Hyrcak. Derick Bulley then launched one to centrefield that went over the fence to put the Blitzos up 2-0.

The home side rebounded and put three across in the bottom of the inning. Beef Johnson and Neil Murphy hit back to back singles with one out, followed by a Steve Cavanagh walk to load the bases. A single by Jeff Cavanagh drove in one run, then a two out double by Mitch Taylor drove in another two runs.

The 'Trics added to the lead in the fourth. Taylor singled, was moved to second on a Jimmy Hook bunt. Adam Brown reached on an error putting Taylor on third. A Jon Daley sac fly put the home team up 4-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Fitzroy put oup aonther two runs. Taylor walked to lead off. After two strikeouts, Daley reached on an error. Johnson then doubled to the gap to push the lead to 6-2.

The Blitzos threatened in the top of the seventh with two out, loading the bases on a Andrew Bruce walk, a Tony Searle single, and a Russ Mitchell HBP. However, Troy Wilson in on relief of Bud Hanlon was able to get a ground ball to end the game.

WC Electric rookie and Fitzroy Harbour native second baseman Mitch Taylor was a standout in his home debut, impressing his mom, dad, sister and grandma who were all on hand for the game with his performance at the plate (2 for 2 with a walk, 2RBI) and his defence (including turning a double play in the sixth).
