from the Orleans Star

The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees are offering a free training sessions for local softball players under the age of 18 in advance of their season-opener on Saturday at Pierre Rocque Park, near Place d’Orléans.

The clinics will run from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in advance of the Gee-Gees’ double-header against the University of Windsor Lancers at 2 and 4 p.m.

Most of Ottawa U’s roster contains players who won a bronze medal at the Senior Canadian championships for the Orléans Rebels during the summer.

The Gee-Gees will also face a stiff challenge on Sunday from the team that beat them in the finals of last year’s Ontario Intercollegiate Women’s Fastpitch League, the University of Western Ontario Mustangs. Games begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., again at Pierre Rocque Park.
