Carp wins 6-5 at home over Barrhaven

from Tony Riches

In an otherwise well pitched game, big innings were the story at the Carp Fairgrounds Thursday night. Carp I4C Victory stormed out to a 5-0 first inning lead then saw Barrhaven Broadway Blues come back with four runs of their own one frame later and eventually tie the game in the fifth before Kevin McGuire`s solo home run in the bottom of the inning provided the deciding run.

Blues starter Paul Ceppi experienced some early grip problems on the chilly evening, which led to the first four Carp batters reaching base, three of those with walks. Aaron Amo and Shawn Simzer came up with big hits to produce runs, Simzer`s double falling out of Steve Edgerton`s glove as he hit the ground attempting to end the inning with a diving catch. Barrhaven missed another chance to get out of the inning limiting the damage to three runs, but an infield throwing error allowed two more to cross. The former Manotick squad came back right away however, thanks to Edgerton`s bases loaded triple and Trevor Power`s infield hit. Ceppi and Victory starter Dan Konkle found a groove for the remainder of their evenings, each throwing four before giving way to Kyle Olson and Trevor Lahey in the fifth. The Blues took advantage of a Carp error and a two out RBI single by Jordan Adams to tie the game before McGuire broke the tie leading off the Carp`s half of the inning.
