Carp wins at home 8-1 over Stittsville - WITH REPORT

from Mike Money

Carp I4C Victory (2-2-1) handed Stittsville 56ers (1-2) their second mercy rule loss in as many nights as the home side won 8-1.

Dan Konkle (1-1) and Kyle Olson threw for I4C, while Darren Featherstone (1-1) threw for Stittsville.

report from Eric Rosenquist

Carp I4C Victory bounced back nicely from a disappointing pair of results the night before, coming away with an 8-1 victory over the Stittsville 56ers on Thursday night.

Dan Konkle started for Carp and was relieved by Kyle Olson after one out in the 4th. The two Carp pitchers limited the Stittsville batters to just four hits over five innings.

Konkle struggled with his rise ball in the first inning, walking leadoff hitter Scott Herriot and then giving up a single to Darren Featherstone, but he got his drop and change working and retired the next two batters. Carp then caught a break when, with Herriot on third base, a ball to the backstop that would have normally meant a run bounced off the backstop and directly to catcher Al Read, who was able to tag Herriot for the 3rd out.

A similar play in the bottom of the first allowed Carp to score a run. With two away, Kevin McGuire hit a triple and then came home on a passed ball that hit the backstop and bounced away from Stittsville catcher Tyler Nystedt.

Carp added two more runs in the bottom of the third off a double by Tim Power, an RBI single by Aaron Amo, and an RBI double by Todd Storms. The damage might have been worse in the third had Stittsville LF Dan Jessiman not made a spectacular catch off a hit by Brooks Paziuk to end the inning.

The Carp bats kept things going in the bottom of the fourth, adding five more runs, including three off a Kevin McGuire home run to centre field.

With Kyle Olsen working a 1-2-3 5th inning, the 7 run lead was enough for a mercy win and the game ended after five innings.
