Quyon Wins At The Grove
The Quyon Combat Flyers returned to Alexander Grove Park for the 2nd time this year on Wednesday night and evened up the season series against the hosting 56ers.
Chaz Hargrove got the start for the 56ers and took the loss, while Matt Greer toed the rubber for Quyon and was credited with the win.
Quyon got on the board early with two in the first. After retiring the first two batters he faced, Hargrove surrendered a triple to #3 hitter Nick Armitage. Armitage would then score on Greer's hard hit grounder to thirdbase. The Flyers 2nd run came by way of Greer swiping home on a passed ball.
Stittsville got one back in the bottom half of the inning. With two-out, Dan Jessiman hit a moon shot to centrefield. This proved to be Stittsville's only hit of the night.
Greer's solid pitching performance was backed by some good defence by the Quyon middle infield, turning two double-plays on the night (6-3, 4-6-3).
The Flyers stranded 7 runners through the 1st 4 innings, before breaking out for 6 runs in the 5th.
After a Luke Young 2 RBI single, Quyon loaded the bases for Greer. Cooney responded with a hit, which ended up clearing the bases on a fielding error. Greer would then score on a Joe McCleary RBI single.
