Quyon sweeps doubleheader, remains undefeated
The Quyon Combat Flyers undefeated season continued with two wins over I4C Victory in GOFL play in Carp on Thursday night.
In the first game, the Flyers won 9-1 in five innings. Drew Hathway had the win, with a one hitter. Bill Gerber took the loss for Carp.
The nightcap saw Quyon win 9-3. Joran Graham was the winning thrower for the Flyers, while Neil Cooke took the loss and had relief from Ryan Chatten.
Quyon has a double header remaining against Kars to finish off the season, while Carp will host Fitzroy next week in their last game.
The Thursday results solidify some positions in the GOFL standings.
1. Quyon (13-0-3) will finish first overall, and will take the bye to the GOFL Final Weekend Showdown tournament in Quyon on September 9/10.
2. Kars (11-5) will finish second place. They will face Stittsville in a first round best of five match up.
3. Barrhaven (7-8-3) clinches third place and home field advantage for the first round. They will play the sixth seed in a best of five series.
4. The Blitz (7-9-2) end up in fourth place and also have home field advantage for the first round. The Blitzos will play the fifth seed in a best of five series.
5/6. Carp (6-11) and Fitzroy (6-10-1) have a game remaining to be made up next week. If Carp wins, the get the fifth seed and will play the Blitz and Fitzroy plays Barrhaven. If Fitzroy wins, or the game ends in a tie, WC Electric will play the Blitz and Carp will play Barrhaven.
7. Stittsville (5-12-1) finishes in seventh and as mentioned plays Kars in the first round.
