I4C Victory win 6-4 in Fitzroy

In Monday night GOFL action in Fitzroy Harbour, Carp I4C Victory came back to beat West Carleton Electric 6-4.

Cody Price was the winning pitcher in relief of Neil Cooke, while Steve Cavanagh took the loss.

In the top of the first Price walked, moved to second on Kevin McGuire's walk and scored on Bobby Jack Hart's RBI single to left.

West Carleton responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. Neil Murphy singled with one out and moved to second on wild pitch. Derek Barber's double scored Murphy. Shawn Rebertz then hit the first pitch thrown to him this season over the fence to the opposite field and cashed Barber to put the 'Trics up 3-1.

Carp responded in the top of the third. Adam Purdy tripled to start the inning and scored on Kevin McGuire's single. Neil Cooke's two run homer scored McGuire to put Victory up 4-3. "It was a pretty large shot to centre," said Cooke afterwards enjoying a beverage in the Fitzroy Hall.

Fitzroy tied things up in the bottom of the fourth. Dave Bahm singled, moved to second on Matt Bowman's walk and scored on Trevor Barton's RBI double.

Carp made the pitching change for the fifth, replacing starter Cooke with Price.

I4C Victory regained the lead in the top of the seventh. With one out, Hart ran out a misplayed grounder and reached first. Al Read then singled to put two on. Eric Colvin's hard hit grounder to short was bobbled and the bases were loaded. Matt Medaglia's single to right scored two runs to put the Victory ahead 6-4.

West Carleton came close in the bottom of the last inning. After a strikeout, Jeff Barber walked, Murphy reached on an error and Andy Barber walked to load the bases. However, two consecutive strikeouts by Cody Price ended the game and sealed the win for Carp.

Medaglia was 3 for 4 on the night and drove in the game winning runs, and despite the protests of his teammates he is named the Caveman's Choice as player of the game.
