I4C Victory wins in Fitzroy 2-1
For the second week in a row, Carp I4C Victory defeated West Carleton Electric in Fitzroy Harbour. On Tuesday night it was a 2-1 game which was very well pitched.
Paul Koert, of the #3 ISC ranked Jarvis Travellers, took the win in his GOFL debut, with Cody Price picking up the save. Steve Cavanagh threw very well in a losing cause for WC only allowing four hits.
The game saw only three base runners through the first three innings. Carp opened the scoring in the fourth on Bobby Jack Hart's solo homerun to centrefield.
Fitzroy responded in the bottom of the frame. Neil Murphy led off with a double, taking third on a misplayed relay. After a strikeout, Troy Wilson's RBI single scored Murphy. With Derek Barber walking and the speedy (?!) Adam Brown in to run for Wilson, the 'Tric threatened, but two strikeouts got Koert out of the inning with a 1-1 tie.
The decisive run came in the top of the fifth. With two out, Joel Langford tripled, and scored on Kevin McGuire's RBI single.
Price came in for Carp to close the game and threw to six batters over two innings to earn the save.
Bobby Jack Hart gets the honours as Caveman's Choice for player of the game for his homerun and solid defensive game as catcher.
