Kars downs West Carleton 7-3

The Kars Aces beat West Carleton Electric 7-3 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour.

Brad Porter earned the complete game win, while the home team used a committee of pitchers with Andy Barber, Jeff Barber and Steve Cavanagh all seeing action.

The top of the first saw Kristian Knapp generate a run for Kars. He started off the game with an off hand infield single to third base. Knapp then took second on Nick Ellis' sac bunt, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Cory Morrison's ground out to short.

West Carleton answered back in the bottom of the first. Jon Daley reached on a misplayed grounder and moved to second on a wild pitch. When Michael Cavanagh's grounder resulted in the first baseman being brought off the bag, Daley alertly rounded third and scored.

Kars got back to work in the second as Cory Alkerton walked and scored on Kurtis Summers' two run homer to make it 3-1 for the Aces.

The Aces pushed the lead to 5-1 in the top of the third. Knapp doubled to start things off and took third on a passed ball. After two ground outs, Chad Milne walked. Fitzroy elected to intentionally walk Cory Alkerton. Danny Powers made them pay however as his flare to shallow left-centre scored two Knapp and Milne.

West Carleton scored a run in the fourth as Jeff Cavanagh walked to start the inning moved to third on brother Steve's single and scored on Dave Bahm's RBI single.

Kars made the lead 7-2 in the fifth when Cory Alkerton's two run homer scored Milne (who had previously singled).

West Carleton managed a run in the seventh on a couple of Kars miscues, but the game ended 7-2 for the Aces.

Kristian Knapp earns the Caveman's Choice as player of the game for a good night offensively and a great night defensively for Kars as he made several excellent plays on well hit ground balls.
