Quyon wins game one 3-1 over West Carleton Electric

It took a lot of hard work by the Quyon Flyers to get their water-logged diamond ready for their Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff game on Tuesday night, but the teams got the game in and the Flyers prevailed 3-1 over West Carleton Electric to take a 1-0 lead in their best of three series.

Trevor Lahey had the complete game win, allowing only four hits. Steve Cavanagh threw well but took the loss and had relief from Jeff Barber.

The teams were scoreless through four complete.

West Carleton had a good chance, getting runners on the corners with one out after singles from Derek Barber and Neil Murphy. Lahey got out of the inning with two strike outs.

Quyon scored all their runs in the bottom of the fifth. Randy Peck singled with one out and was replaced by pinch runner Randy Frobel. After a strikeout, Dave Hobbs reached on an infield single. A walk to Shawn Laframboise loaded the bases for Matt Greer. After getting down 0-2, Greer battled back and got a pitch he liked and drove it hard up the middle. The pitch bounced off Cavanagh's glove / wrist, and stayed in the infield. In the attempt to get Greer at first, it was misplayed and both Frobel and Hobbs scored. A walk to Joe McCleary loaded the bases again. Dennis McCleary's hard hit ground ball couldn't be fielded and Laframboise scored to make it 3-0. That was it for Cavanagh. Jeff Barber entered to pitch and got a strike out to end the threat.

The Electric got one back in the top of the sixth. Kevin Shonfield walked to start, then was erased at second as Trevor Barton reached on a fielders' choice. Barton advanced to third on two wild pitches, and scored on Mike Cavanagh's ground out. However, that was the only run West Carleton could muster and Lahey earned the complete game 3-1 victory.

Next game in the series is Monday August 24 at 8 pm in Fitzroy Harbour.
