West Carleton Electric wins 10-2 over Stittsville 56ers
West Carleton Electric defeated the Stittsville 56ers 10-2 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Tuesday night in Fitzroy Harbour.
Andy Barber got the win, while Kyle Olson took the loss, with relief from Adam Smith and Luc D'Entremont.
It was the visiting team that got on the board first, putting a pair across in the opening frame. Aaron Amo lead off with a single and stole second. Adam Smith then hit a hard ball that was well played by shortstop Michael Cavanagh who was able to get Amo at third base in a run down. After a walk to Dan Jessiman, brother Scott singled to score Smitty. Later in the inning, an infield single by D'Entremont scored Dan Jessiman.
West Carleton responded with four in the bottom of the first. Barber lead off the inning with a solo homer. Trevor Barton then ripped a double, and scored later on Jeff Cavanagh's double. Shawn Rebertz reached on a fielder's choice when the 56ers tried unsuccessfully to get Cavanagh at third. Rebertz took second on a wild pitch. Cavanagh and Rebertz both scored on a misplayed grounder to make it 4-2 and the Trics never looked back.
The Electric put up three more in second. Barber doubled off the fence with one out, and scored on Barton's double. Michael Cavanagh then reached on a fielder's choice when Barton was put out. Jeff Cavanagh's two run shot scored long lost cousin Mike.
The home team added to the lead in the third. Neil Murphy lead off with a single, and Charlie Ross also singled. Both scored on Adam Brown's double, with Brown scoring later in the inning on a single by Barton.
Barber struck out the side in the fourth, and despite allowing two hits in the fifth did not allow any further runs.
