Footage from the 1987 ISC World Tournament

I stumbled across this video on YouTube about the 1987 ISC World Tournament in Saskatoon.

It's an incredible treasure trove of 80s fastball. For those of you that played men's ball in that decade (my first season of Men's ball was in 1990), it gives you an impression of what it was like back then.

Some of the highlights, besides the seriously 80s wardrobes on the presenters, include:

  • Dudes with moustaches facing the top pitchers in the world with no helmets.
  • Discussion of how players use "aluminum or wood bats, most just over 30 ounces".
  • Hall of Fame pitchers like Brad Underwood, Mike Piechnik, Ty Stofflet and many more.
  • Pitcher domination - there were 55 of 90 games were shutouts at the tournament in 1996. Lots of pitchers with 0.00 ERAs. Discussion of how Jimmy Moore had a streak of 59 2/3 consecutive shutout innings.
  • Lots of guys working on the slap bunt.

Overall a great timewaster of a video if you like fastball history.
