West Carleton wins game 1 over Micksburg

West Carleton Electric won the first game of their best-of-three Greater Ottawa Fastball League series over the Micksburg Twins by a score of 14-7.

Andy Barber had the complete game win. Matt McIntyre took the loss in relief of Corey Costello. Andrew McIntyre also pitched for the Twins.

The Twins got off to a quick three run lead in the top of the first. With two out, Corey Costello walked, Quinton Rook reached on an error and Chad Costello walked to load the bases. A walk by Matt McIntyre scored the first run and a single by Scott Conroy drove in another two runs.

WC responded in the bottom of the first with an Andy Barber solo home run.

Micksburg put up four in the third inning. Rook hit an infield single, and Chad Costello walked. Matt McIntyre then singled to drive them both in. McIntyre subsequently scored on Conroy's RBI double and Conroy made it home on Paul Griffith's RBI single.

In the bottom of the third, Andy Barber once again led off the inning with a solo shot to make it 7-2.

In the top of the fourth, Corey Costello started things off with a single, and moved to second on a wild pitch. Rook reached on an error to put two on. When a pitch got by the catcher, Costello hustled to third, but injured himself on the play and had to be removed from the game.

With Matt McIntyre in to pitch the fourth, West Carleton got a run when Chris Costello singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Kevin Shonfield's single.

The Electric put up 10 runs in the bottom of five, with grand slams from Jeff Barber and Shawn Rebertz, as well as a two run single by Shonfield.

West Carleton was able to enact the run rule, by scoring an additional run in the bottom of the sixth when Mitch Taylor (who had singled) scored on Trevor Barton's single to end things.

The next game is Thursday at 8 pm in Micksburg.
