Stittsville and West Carleton tie at 5 at Pink in the Park
The Stittsville 56ers and West Carleton Electric tied 5-5 at the Grove on Tuesday night at the "Pink in the Park" event.
Stittsville Minor Softball Association hosted the event as a fundraiser for breast cancer research and there was a good crowd on hand, with the scoreboard operational and Al Read as the announcer.
Kyle Olson pitched for Stittsville while Matt McKay went the distance for West Carleton.
WC got on the board first with a run in the top of the second. Steve Cavanagh doubled, moved to third on a ground out and scored on an error.
Stittsville responded with two in the bottom of the second frame. Phil Brunet singled with one out. Then Scott Muir singled but the ball was misplayed by the outfielder allowing both baserunners to score.
The visitors responded in the third with three runs. Mitch Taylor led off with a single and Neil Murphy walked. Jeff Cavanagh's sac bunt advanced both runners, and they both scored on Steve Cavanagh's single. SCav advanced on a Chris Trafford single and then was plated on a McKay single to put WC up 4-2.
The 56ers got three runs in the their half of the third. John Craig walked with one out, followed by a Ryan Bond single. Craig scored on a single by Kyle Olson, and both Bond and Olson scored on Brunet's triple to put the home team up 5-4.
The Electric tied things up in the top of the fourth with a Taylor triple and Jeff Cavanagh RBI single.
In the remainder of the game, both pitchers threw very well and the game ended tied at five.
