Local teams at Elims - updated
At the U17 Eliminations in Napanee, the host Express won three games and lost two, finishing in second place. They best Westport Storm 10-0, lost a tight game to Chatsworth Longhorns 5-4, then beat West Carleton Electric 10-3. They beat Drumbo PDP Lightning 2-1 at 9 a.m. on Sunday, then beat New Hamburg Wilmot Lightning 11-2 to go into the final. They ran out of gas in the final versus Chatsworth and lost 9-2. They have qualified for Canadians in Saskatoon.
West Carleton Electric lost their first game in a heartbreaker, 9-8 to Westport on a walk off three run inside the park homer in the bottom of the seventh with two out. They then beat Fingal Storm 13-10, and the Hillsdale Haymakers 8-0, before being eliminated by Napanee. WC was up 3-2 in the third inning, but it slipped away. They finished tied for fifth and will compete in the Ontario Summer Games which doubles as the Provincial A tournament this year.
Westport Storm beat West Carleton, lost to Napanee, then were eliminated in a tight 9-7 loss to Tavistock. They will go to the Provincial B tournament in Stratford in late July.
At the U23 Eliminations in Woodstock, the Osgoode Chiefs lost to Belmore Sting 10-2, but rebounded to beat the Alvinston Aces 7-5. They played Sunday at 9 a.m. and lost 10-0 to Belmore. They finished fourth of the five teams at the event. They are hosting the U23 nationals and would have been there no matter what, but they would have qualified anyway by finishing fourth.
