Friday night at the Shootout

Both games at the Carp Shootout on Friday night were one run differences, with Ottawa Valley Grain and Micksburg Twins coming out on top.

Ottawa Valley Grain 1 Los Caballos 0

The first game of the night saw Ottawa Valley Grain squeak by Los Caballos 1-0. Adam Rueckwald had the win, allowing only two hits, one walk and striking out twelve. Venezuelan native Luis Colombo took the loss, also only allowing two hits, walking four and striking out eleven.

OVG got their run in the top of the fourth. Chris Costello reached on a dropped third strike with one out. Ryan Clare then walked. Both runners advanced sixty feet on a passed ball. Costello scored on Lane McMurtry's infield single.

It looked like Los Caballos might score in the bottom of the fourth. Pedro Lopez singled with one out. The next batter hit a screamer to left field and Jefferson Roman made an unreal catch to get the out.

Micksburg Twins 2 Kingston Axemen 1

The late game was another tight one with Micksburg getting the win 2-1 over Kingston. Joran Graham went the distance for the Twins to earn the victory. Cory Alkerton lost in relief of Jordan McDonald.

All runs in this game were solo home runs. Cory Alkerton's long bomb got the Axemen up 1-0 but the Twins got on the board with Jared Steege's shot. Dylan Cunningham's homer in the bottom of the sixth was the game winner.

Saturday action starts up at 10 a.m. at the Carp Fairgrounds.
