Electric defeat Brewers; Reuckwald tosses no hitter

West Carleton Electric defeated the Manotick Brewers 9-1 in Greater Ottawa Fastball League play on Wednesday night in Manotick.

Adam Rueckwald had the win, tossing a five-inning no hitter and striking out ten. Carley Shane took the loss.

WC put up three in the first. Dylan Rorwick led off the game hitting the first pitch he saw deep to centre for a solo homerun. Chris Costello then doubled and was driven in by a Conner Hopper double. Hopper subsequently scored on Steve Cavanagh's single.

The Electric plated four more in the second. Owen Brown reached on an infield single and moved to second when the attempted throw was errant. Rorwick walked, and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. When Costello's grounder was misplayed, two runs scored. Costello subsequently scored on a Hopper single, with Cavanagh driving in another run with a single later in the inning to make it 7-0.

The visitors pushed the lead to 9-0 in the third. Jeff Campbell doubled with one out and scored on Rorwick's RBI single. Costello reached on an error, and Rorwick scored on a Hopper single.

The Brewer's lone run came in the bottom of the fifth. Shane walked with two out, and Triston Brown came on as the replacement runner for the pitcher. A deep fly to right centre by the Manotick nine-hitter bounced off the centrefielder Owen Brown's glove after he made a long run to get to the ball allowing Triston Brown to score. The rightfielder Campbell picked up the ball, threw it in to shortstop Rorwick who relayed it to catcher Costello to get the hitter out at home and end the game. After some debate and collaboration with others, the official scorer decided it was an E8 on the play, preserving the no-hitter for Rueckwald.
