Micksburg finishes third at Hallman (added info)
After finishing with two wins and a loss in the round robin and a quarter-final win late Saturday, the Micksburg Twins lost in the semi-finals of the Peter Hallman Memorial tournament in Kitchener on Sunday morning, with the Waterdown Hammer getting by with a 4-3 win.
Kyle Linton took the loss in relief of Joran Graham. Clayton Robinson earned the win in relief of Steve McNaughton.
Dylan Cunningham and Conner Hopper hit homers for the Twins.
The Twins had some bad luck in the sixth when they appeared to have scored two runs only to have both runners sent back to the bases. With the score tied at three, Hopper had hit a single with two out and was on the move when the next batter Jared Steege launched a ball deep to left. The permanent fence at the Ballyard appears to be about 300 feet but temporary fences had been erected at 250 feet. As the left fielder attempted to catch the ball, he crashed into the temporary fence, knocking it down and allowing the ball to bounce through. With two out and a fast runner on the move, Hopper would have easily scored on the hit and Steege had a very good chance at an inside the park homer. However, the umpires ruled it a ground rule double and the runners went back to second and third. Waterdown got out of the inning after an intentional walk and a strike out. The Hammer took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a solo homer and that held up as the winning run.
The Hammer ended up losing 3-1 in the final to the Toronto Batmen, who had defeated the Tavistock Merchants U23 in the other semi-final.
Other teams at the event were Ohsweken Redmen, East Hants Mastadons, Georgian Bay Giants, and Chippewa Chiefs.
