Flyers advance to GOFL final

From Shawn Laframboise

The Quyon Flyers won the deciding game 3 of their Greater Ottawa Fastball League semi-final series against the Orleans Rebels Wednesday night in Luskville, Qc by a score of 7-1. Drew Hathway had the win while Andy Barber took the loss.

The Flyers opened the scoring in the top of the first. Matt Greer led off the game with a triple off the centre field fence. After Cade Kuehl walked, Barber struck out the next 2 Quyon batters before Steve McCord walked to load the bases. A Shawn Laframboise seeing-eye dribbler up the middle scored 1 before Barber got out of the jam without further damage.

The Flyers added to their lead in the 3rd. Kuehl singled to lead off the inning and scored on Hathway's double to left field. After advancing to 3rd on a wild pitch, the Rebels tried to make a play at 3rd on a ground ball in which Hathway scrambled back in time, and Nick Armitage reached 1st safely. McCord then cashed 2 with a single to right field and Laframboise walked. Following a strikeout, McCord scored on a Lane McMurtry sac fly and Laframboise scored on an infield single from Greer.

The Rebels answered with 1 in the bottom of the 3rd. With 1 out, Barber hit a towering solo homerun to left field, which proved to be the only Rebels run of the night.
