George Findley honoured
Veteran umpire George Findley was honoured by ball players, fans and his fellow officials before Game 1 of the Greater Ottawa Fastball League finals on Wednesday night.
George (a level V umpire) officiated at Softball Canada and ISC, and international fastpitch softball championships and was a highly regarded official across Eastern Ontario for over 40 years. He was also actively involved with the Eastern Ontario Umpires Assocation in an administrative capacity and umpired and assigned games for the GOFL for many seasons. George was honoured with a lifetime award by the Ottawa Sports Awards in 2018.
George is now "officially" retired and was recognized pre- and post-game on Wednesday. Below are photos of George with the teams (Micksburg Twins and Quyon Flyers) and with his fellow umpires from EOUA who attended the event.
I interviewed George several years ago and he had some great stories to tell: Eastern Ontario Fastball Blog: GOFL Interview - George Findley (fitzroyfastball.blogspot.com).

One of the best and greatest umpires I had the honour of working with. Congratulations George on an outstabding and distinguished umpiring career! Shawn (Pugger) Williams
