Quyon wins first playoff game

This was supposed to be posted Thursday night, but there was some sort of glitch - likely blogger's error. Anyway, here is a story from the GOFL playoff first round.

The Quyon Flyers won the first game of the first round best-of-three Greater Ottawa Fastball League playoff series 5-4 against the Manotick Brewers on Thursday night in Shawville, in eight innings.

Drew Hathway earned the win while Carley Shane pitched for the visitors.

Manotick had a 4-1 lead after six and a half. In the bottom of the seventh, Shawn Laframboise led off with a single up the middle for the Flyers. After a Steve McCord single and a flyout, Dennis McCleary doubled to score one. Manotick elected to intentionally walkp Matt Greer to load the bases for Drew Hathway. He hit a high far one to the right centre gap that fell in at the fence, scoring two. Manotick made the relay in time to get Greer trying to score from first.

With the game tied at three, the game went to an eighth inning. After a scoreless top of eight, Cade Kuehl drove in the game winning run to win the match 5-4 for the Flyers.

Game two is scheduled for Wednesday August 13 in Manotick at 7 p.m.
