WC advances to GOFL semi-finals (now with details)

West Carleton Electric advanced to the Greater Ottawa Fastball League semi-finals with a 8-6 win in Manotick in eight innings over Los Caballos in their best-of-three playoff quarter-final on Wednesday night.

Adam Rueckwald had the complete game win. Will Lowe took the loss in relief of Matt McKay.

West Carleton scored two in the top on a Finn Barton 2RBI triple. West Carleton would have scored more runs but for Fredyan Carpio leaping to steal a Conner Hopper missile to centrefield that would have been a home run if not for the catch.

Los Caballos strung together five straight hits before three consecutive strikeouts to go up 4-2 after one complete.

The 'Trics evened things up in the second. With Chris Costello on with a single and two out, Colton Lecuyer was intentionally walked. The next batter, Trevor Barton singled to score two.

WC took the lead in third 5-4 after Finn Barton walked and eventually took home on a wild pitch.

The home team responded immediately to tie it in their half of third after a Derek Martin single and Elvin Gomez double.

West Carleton went up 6-5 in the sixth. Dylan Rorwick singled, moved to second on a ground out, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Finn Barton single.

In the bottom of the sixth, Felipe Morales smashed a ball deep to left for what looked like a sure two-out triple, but Ben Broek's throw was right on the money and the inning was ended with a 7-5 put out.

The Caballos tied it up in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the seventh as Juan Ramirez had a game tying homer to lead off the inning. After two strikeouts, Carpio doubled. Two intentional walks later, the bases were loaded, but Rueckwald got a strikeout to get the game to the eighth.

With Rorwick on second on the international tiebreaker, Los Caballos elected to intentionally walk the first batter, Hopper. A wild pitch moved the runners sixty feet, and Finn Barton's sac fly to left field, his fourth RBI of the night, scored the go ahead run. A single by Sean Lecuyer scored Hopper and gave the Trics a two-run cushion.

After Los Caballos failed to score in the bottom, West Carleton Electric won 8-6 and advanced to the semi-finals where they will face the Vars Aces.
