56ers shut out Blitz

Courtesy Sam Oliver

On a beautiful night at beautiful Alexander Grove, the Stittsville 56ers blanked the Ottawa Blitz 3-0, to move into a tie for second place in the GOFL standings. Dan Bradley pitched the win for the 56ers, yielding only one hit on route to the victory.

Jamie Blakely pitched well in a losing effort, surrendering three earned runs on only 6 hits.

The damage came in the second inning on the strength of homerun off the bat of Stittsville first baseman Scott Parsons, which also plated Darren Featherstone who had singled to lead off the inning. Stittsville scored again in the 4th, when once again Featherstone singled, advanced to second on a sacrafice bunt, and scored on a Dan Preston single. Featherstone and Preston each had two hits for the winners. The lone hit for the Blitz came off the bat of centerfielder JohnHrycak.

Next up for the 56ers is the league leading Team Easton at “The Showcase” in Fitzroy Harbour, Sunday, July16th. The Ottawa Blitz will next see action against that same Team Easton on Tuesday, July 18th.
