WC Electrics over Lomor 1-0

The low scoring trend in the GOFL continued as WC Electric defeated Lomor Printers in Manotick on Wednesday night by a score of 1-0.

Jason Smith toed the rubber for Manotick in his GOFL debut this year. After getting a line drive in the knee in the first inning, Smith was still able to pitch a very strong game for Lomor, allowing one earned run on five hits, one walk and eleven strikeouts.

Big Bud Hanlon and Brad Porter combined for the shutout for the Electric. Hanlon started and got the win, pitching five innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out two. Porter got the save, pitching the last two innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

Both teams made one error.

With WC Electric catcher Steve "Beef" Johnson puking (bad shrimp apparently!) on the sidelines after the first inning, Michael Cavanagh was pressed into service from his usual shortstop position and fared quite well behind the dish.

Fitzroy scored their only run in the top of third. Todd Clouthier reached base on a one out walk and was sacrificed to second by Michael Cavanagh. Shawn Rebertz then legged out a infield hit putting runners on the corners. Clouthier ended up scoring on a wild pitch, giving Fitzroy the only run they would require.

Lomor threatened in the bottom of the third as they loaded the bases with none out on singles by Calvin Medynski and Lindsay Medynski and then Jeff Hyndman reaching on an error. The next batter Jason Smith hit a shallow fly to left field. Fielder Jason Armstrong threw a strike from left to the plate on the tagging up runner to complete double play. Following batter Darren Staal grounded out and the shutout was preserved.

Next up for both teams in the Showcase in Fitzroy Harbour on Sunday - more details on the blog to follow.
