Shawville downs Pontiac 3-2

from Shawn Laframboise

Tuesday night saw the Shawville Athletics host the Pontiac Royals in UOVMFL play.

Matt Greer got the nod for the Royals, while Todd Fraser took the mound for the A's.

Both pitchers went the distance in the low scoring affair.

Greer got the game's first run after a walk and two pass balls saw him score from third on a one out ground ball. Travis Dorzek got the hitting started in the fourth with a double down the third baseline. Shawn Laframboise cashed him in with a fly ball to deep left that was misjudged by the Shawville left fielder.

After a couple ground ball hits in the bottom of the fourth, the A's scored their second run of the game on an error charged to third baseman Dorzek.

All tied up at 2 going into the bottom of the 7th, the A's threatened with the top of the order due up. Luke Murphy led off and reached second. After retiring Todd Hearty, the Royals decided to give Fraser the free pass to first, to put runners on first and second. Cooney then proceeded to strike out Darron Barr, and brought up fellow Flyer, Steve McCord. After a good battle, McCord got the best of him with a line drive single to left field to score Murphy and win the game.

The A's move into a tie for second in the standings and the two teams finish the season series at two wins apiece. Each team has a game to be played against WC Electric, the Quyon Flyers, and the Micksburg Twins. The Flyers look to play spoiler this thursday as they host the Royals at 8:30 in Quyon.
