Valley / Orleans tied 1-1, Quyon advances to RA Final

Bring On Game Three!
Valley Rebounds To Tie Series 1-1

By Tyler Cox, Ottawa Valley Raiders Fastball Club
OTTAWA—The Valley Raiders defeated the Orléans Midget Rebels 9-1 in Game 2 of the semi-finals last night at the RA Centre. The best-of-three series is now tied 1-1. Game three will take place Monday night at 7 PM on the RA Centre’s Diamond #1.

RC GOES AGAIN FOR VALLEY
Ryan Cox toed the slab for his fourth-straight start of the playoffs. He collected the win, improving his playoff record to three wins and one no-decision. He pitched four innings on Wednesday, allowing one earned run on four hits. Gord Flannery pitched the fifth and sixth innings for Valley. Flannery allowed one hit and struck out four batters. Fan-favourite Gary Cavanagh closed the game in the seventh inning. Cavanagh allowed one hit, and struck out two Rebels.

VALLEY STRIKES EARLY
After being held to one hit by Rebels pitcher Chad Hargrove on Tuesday night, Valley was eager to hit on Wednesday night. In the top of the first Brett Dugan and Rich Antunes reached base on a single and walk, respectively. Lukas Kamps then reached base on failed attempt at a sac bunt, on which Dugan was forced out at third. Antunes and Kamps then scored on a two-run double by designated player Gord Flannery.

Roy Black led Valley’s attack in the second inning by hitting a double deep to left-centerfield. Brett Dugan then induced a walk from Hargrove. Black then crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Dugan scored on an RBI double by Lukas Kamps. Kamps then scored on an RBI double by Will Mood.

Antunes sparked a one-out-rally in the fourth inning with a single off of relief pitcher Nick Bowman. Bowman had replaced Hargrove after the second inning. Kamps followed with a base-on-balls. Mood then drove in Antunes with an RBI single. The inning ended strangely when both Mood and Kamps were called out on an interference play. Kamps had crossed the plate just an instant after Mood had interfered with the Rebels’ second baseman while being tagged out in a rundown between first and second. The officials ruled that Mood had interfered with any possible attempt that the Rebels had to make a play at home. As a result, both Kamps and Mood were called out on the play.

Dave Millette reached base on a walk in the sixth inning. Millette scored on an RBI single by Kamps. Kamps moved to third on a single by Mood, and later scored on a passed ball.

REBELS STRUCK BY FATIGUE
The toll of a week at the Midget Canadians in Saskatchewan and the ensuing jetlag finally hit the Rebels on Wednesday night. Kamps commented on the Rebels lack of zest.

“They’re clearly tired tonight. But look for them to bounce back on Monday night. We can’t take them lightly.”
In the RA’s other semi-final, the Quyon Junior Flyers beat Team Six 9-3, sweeping the best-of-three series.
