West Carleton Electric ties for third in Grafton
Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric finished tied for third in the Grafton "Jim Bradford" Tournament this past weekend. It was beautiful weather all weekend, hot and sunny.
Game 1: WC Electric 1 Oshawa Double B Intermediates 0
Brad Porter pitched a 4-hit shutout for the win. Brian Mather went six innings for Oshawa, and Tim Mather took the loss in relief in the seventh. Jon Daley had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh when he drove in Matt Greer who had reached on an error.
Game 2: WC Electric 7 Napanee Express Midgets 5
Bud Hanlon had the win over five innings and Brad Porter picked up the save. Ian Wollwork had the loss for Napanee. Jon Daley and Steve Johnson had two hits as did pick-ups Joe McCleary and Steve Walman.
Game 3: Milliken Intermediates 4 WC Electric 3
Steve Cavanagh had the loss for Fitzroy while Bud Hanlon some saw work in relief. Some skinny dude named Jesse threw for the Milliken team, from the Scarborough area. Milliken staked out a 4-0 lead after 5 innings, and WC Electric didn't get on the board until the bottom of the seventh, but were only able to get three, stranding two runners to end the game.
Game 4: WC Electric 6 Murphy's Windmillers 4
WC Electric defeated the Windmillers from Peterborough to win their pool with a 3-1 record. Bud Hanlon had the win while Matt Greer had the save. Travis Gibson had the loss in relief of Luke Leahy. Fitzroy's six runs all came in the fifth inning. Jon Daley and Joe McCleary both had two hits, Jason Armstrong had a triple and Matt Greer hit a home run for the Electric.
Semi Final: Napanee Express Juniors 1 WC Electric 0
WC Electric lost a squeaker in the semi-finals, falling to the Napanee Juniors 1-0. Brad Porter pitched a gem and was the hard luck loser allowing only two hits and walking one over six innings. Unfortunately, one of the hits for Napanee came after a runner had reached on an error and that was the difference. Jordan MacDonald had the win for Napanee, scattering six hits.
Napanee Juniors went on to play the Murphy Windmillers in the final, losing 9-2 to the Peterborough team.
