Blitz win one-game playoff over Orleans - with story

The Ottawa Blitz defeated the Orleans Gators 11-3 on Wednesday night in the 8th vs. 9th place GOFL game to move on to face Team Easton in the quarter-finals.

from Andrew Bruce

The Blitz won their first ever playoff game and series in team history on Wednesday night in Manotick. The Blitz beat the Orleans Gators in the single game first round playoff series, ending the season for the Gators.

Derick Bulley opened the scoring for the Blitz in the bottom of the 1st inning with a 2-out walk, a passed ball, and a Tony Searle single. The Gators responded in the top of the 3rd when Max Serre singled and later scored when Jordan Adams hit into a fielder's choice.

The scored remained tied until the 5th due to strong pitching from Jamie Blakely and Nick Bowman (for other pitching feats performed by Nick check out http://istruckoutgreggarrity.huddlebook.com/).

In the bottom of five Brett Dugan and Darron Barr hit back to back singles, and the squirrel was scored off a sac fly by Ron Hrycak. Matt Alkerton answered for the Gators in top of the 6th by turning a good pitch by Blakely into a 2 run homer to centre field (also scoring Chad Hargrove).

With 2 out in the bottom of 6, and a possible 4 outs remaining in the Blitz season they started a rally that saw 10 straight batters reach base, ending the game by mercy at 11-3.
