Fitzroy Harbour WC Electric 4 Quyon COMBAT Flyers 2 (8 innings)
WP: Brad Porter
LP: Joran Graham
The home team WC Electric won an exciting 4-2 game in eight innings over the Quyon Flyers in front of a good sized crowd, especially considering the chilly conditions.
Brad Porter went the distance, picking up 16 strikeouts along the way to the win. Joran Graham had 11 strikeouts in a losing cause for Quyon.
WC Electric jumped out a two run lead in the top of the third. With Trevor Barton on first, Cavanagh hit an opposite field line drive to right which eluded the diving right fielder. Cavanagh managed to score on the play putting the home side up 2-0.
Quyon got a run back in the third on a Joe McCleary RBI single scoring Shawn Laframboise, and added another run in the fourth on a Ben Younge RBI single to score Nick Armitage who had doubled with two out, making the score 2-2.
The game remained deadlocked after seven complete, so the teams went to the eighth using the international rule.
Jon Daley started at second for West Carleton to start the inning, and took third base on a wild pitch. After the next two batters popped out, Shawn Rebertz had a great at bat and hit a 3-2 pitch off field to score Daley. A subsequent double by Steve Johnson scored Rebertz and put the Electric up 4-2.
Quyon threatened in the bottom of the eighth. Matt Greer started at second base. Porter struck out the next two batters, but Drew Hathway hit a single to put runners on the corners. A walk to Joran Graham loaded the bases, but Porter was able to get out of the inning with a comebacker to the circle and seal the 4-2 win for Fitzroy.
Next up at 9am is Stittsville vs. Wyevale and Donnacona vs. Kars.
