Micksburg Twins win silver at Peewee Provincials
from Jerry McIntyre
The Micksburg Twins had a successful weekend at the OASA Peewee Provincial Tournament in Cobourg.
The Twins started the weekend with an 18-3 win over Springbrook after forcing the mercy rule in the fourth inning. Matt McIntyre was the winning pitcher.
In their second game, the Micksburg Twins faced Port Perry and defeated them 2-1 after a game saving catch by second baseman Kyle Sauriol. The winning pitcher of that game was Jared Steege.
The third game, the boys faced the Cobourg Clippers in the undefeated game. Micksburg’s bats were hot and they mercied the Clippers 10-0 after 5 innings. Matt McIntyre got the win for the Twins for that game.
With 3 wins, the Twins advanced to the gold medal game on Sunday. Unfortunately, the results weren’t as favourable for the Twins on day two and the Twins were beat by the Cobourg Clippers by a score of 4-1. The Twins’ shortstop Riley Hennessy went out of the game in the fourth inning after hurting himself sliding into second base, and this was a big loss for the Twins.
This was the first loss for the Twins, so the Clippers had to beat them again, and that they did, by a score of 5-2.
The Twins ended up bringing home a well deserved silver medal.
