Quyon evens series with Blitz - now with details
txt msg update and story from Shawn Laframboise
Game two between the Blitz and Quyon saw the home team come out on top by a score of 6-2. The Combat Flyers were happy to be back within the friendly confines of the Quyon ball park.
Drew Hathway took the mound for the second night in a row while Ottawa countered with Jamie Blakely again.
The Flyers started their half of the first inning with a couple base hits, but Blakely managed to get out of the inning leaving to aboard.
The game remained scoreless until the third inning. Luke Young led off with a triple to right field. Dennis McCleary then hit a high chopper to the pitcher and beat out the throw at first, scoring Young in the process. After being sacrificed to second on a bunt from Shawn Laframboise, McCleary scored on a Matt Greer RBI single. Next to the plate, with two outs, Hathway hit one down the left field line and with the throw coming in to third base he advanced to second. With runners on second and third, and two outs, the Blitz elected to walk Joe McCleary to get to Steve McCord and set up the force play all around. This proved costly as McCord took Blakely's second pitch over the centerfield fence for the Grand Slam and put the Flyers up 6-0.
The Blitz put together a rally in the bottom of five. Facing the 6 run mercy, they need to score one to stay alive. With Russ Mitchell on first, Andrew Bruce sacrificed him over to second. Will Mood then doubled to the gap in right-center to score Mitchell. Tony Searle followed that up with a single to left and advanced to second on the throw home, which wasn't in time. That's where the Blitz rally ended, and Quyon managed to hold on for the remainder of the game.
Hathway went the distance and is credited with the win. Blakely took the loss and Derick Bulley saw some action in relief, pitching the last four innings.
