Blitz edges WC Electric 5-2

Ottawa Blitz were 5-3 winners over West Carleton Electric in game two of the doubleheader on Wednesday night in Manotick.

Derick Bulley had the complete game win for the first team win of the season. Jeff Barber threw well in taking the loss for the Electric in his first game on the slab for WCE.

The Electric cashed the first run of the game in the top of two when Jeff Barber walked, move to second on a passed ball, then third on a ground out, and scored on Troy Wilson's RBI single.

Blitzos took a 3-1 lead after the third. Jamie Blakely tripled deep to right then Derek Bergeron walked. Russ Mitchell reached on an infield single to load the bases. Andrew Bruce earned an RBI when he reached on a fielder's choice. Then Will Mood doubled to score two more runs, but was thrown out 8-6 trying to get back to the two bag.

WC tied things in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs with two out. Wilson and Adam Brown hit back to back singles and were driven in on Steve Johnson's 2RBI double.

The home side took the lead for good in the bottom of five. Derek Bergeron led off with a double and scored on an Andrew Bruce single.

An insurance run was added by Ottawa in the sixth as Derek Martin walked and scored on Brett Dugan's triple.

The Electric had a great chance to even things in the top of the seventh but fell short. Beef Johnson led off with a fading off hand drive to right field, but Darron Barr came up with a big catch for the first out. Derek Barber then singled, Jeff Cavanagh reached on a dropped fly ball, and Neil Murphy hit a sharp single that went directly to the centrefielder preventing any runs. With the bases loaded, Bulley was able to induce a strikeout, bringing Dave Bahm to the plate. After a good at bat, Bahm drove the ball up the middle of the diamond, but the agile Bulley made an excellent play to field the ball and retire the final out of the game.
