Quebec Seniors wins the Gil Read Memorial Tournament

The Quebec Seniors scored 60 runs in six games en route to winning the 4th Annual Gil Read Memorial fastball tournament in Carp this weekend. The victory wraps up a productive past three weekends, with a tourney win at the ten team Au Sable, NY event, a finalist showing at Cambridge, MASS, and now a championship at the ten team Gil Read.

Without their ace Francis Leclair this weekend, the Quebec team relied on scoring runs - and lots of them - on Saturday, and turned the ball over to Gregg Garrity on Sunday for two wins.

The defending Canadian Junior Champions, the Napanee North Key Express, were the finalists, while the Kars Aces and Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric shared third place.

The weather was outstanding all weekend and facility top notch. Congratulations to Al Read, Chris Read and the rest of the organizing committee on an excellent event. The local community, both Carp area residents, and eastern Ontario and western Quebec fastball fans came out in good numbers to watch and support the cause. (Rumour going around was that they sold more beer by 3pm on Saturday then they did at the entire event last year.)

These results are "unofficial" but should be pretty close - if you have any updates or corrections, please let me know at fastball@fitzroyharbour.com.
