Quyon wins both in Manotick - UPDATED AGAIN

The Quyon Flyers extended their unbeaten run to 10 games to start the season after two more wins in Manotick Wednesday night.

The Flyers defeated Barrhaven Broadway Blues 4-1 in the opener and beat Ottawa Blitz 10-2 in the night cap to push their record to 9-0-1.

In the 1st half of the double-dip Joran Graham took the win, pitching all seven innings for Quyon. Paul Ceppi took the loss going the distance for Barrhaven.

Quyon started with 1 run in the top of the first inning. Matt Greer walked and then advanced to 3rd on a Tim Craig single. Joe McCleary laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to score Greer and put runners on the corners. Ceppi would settle in and get out of the jam with two strike outs and a ground out. Barrhaven threatened in the home half of the inning. Joe Allan led off with a double and Kevin Shonfield was hit by a pitch to put two on with no out. Graham would then settle in however, and retire the next three batters.

The Flyers added two more in the 2nd inning. Mike Baker walked with one out and stole 2nd. After a strike out, Matt Greer stroked a two out double to left field to score Baker. Greer would then score on Tim Craig’s RBI single.

A solo homerun off the bat of Graham in the top of the 3rd inning scored the 4th run for the visiting team.

The Blues threatened in the 4th, loading the bases with only 1 out, but Graham was able to get out of the jam. After a Trevor Power walk, Steve Edgerton singled. Lindsay Medynski popped out the third base before Mike Branchaud walked to load the bases. Graham was able to strike out the next two hitters to escape the inning.

Barrhaven added their lone run in the 6th inning. Power singled to lead things off and Edgerton walked. Power would later score on a single from Branchaud.

Quyon 10 Blitz 2

Quyon took the second half of the doubleheader by a score of 10-2. Matt Greer earned the victory, tossing all seven innings for the visiting team. Derrick Bulley took the loss and had relief from Shannon Borho.

The Blitz got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Derek Bergeron started things off with a one-out bunt single and advanced to second on an error charged to the Quyon 2nd baseman. Tony Searle cashed in both runners with a 2 RBI triple to the gap in right-centerfield. Greer would get out of the inning with two strikeouts.

Quyon answered back with one in the second. Joran Graham led off with a single and advanced to 2nd on Tim Craig’s sac bunt. Bulley then issued walks to Steve McCord and Luke Young to load the bases. Mike Baker scored Graham with a sac fly to left field.

The visiting squadron tied the game up in the top half of the third frame. Shawn Laframboise reached on an error to the Blitz shortstop and stole second. He would then score on Armitage’s RBI single.

The Blitz threatened in the fourth. Searle led off with his second hit of the game. After a Jamie Blakely pop out to the catcher, Anil Hayne hit into a fielders choice. Ron Hrycak then reached on an error but Greer was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout.

The Flyers put the game out of reach in the fifth, sending 11 batters to the plate. With one out, Nick Armitage singled and advanced to second on a walk to Graham. After a strikeout, McCord battled his way to his second walk of the game to load the bases for Young. Young then let the hammer loose for the second straight night, blasting a grand slam to left-centerfield to make the score 7-2.

Quyon added 3 more in the seventh for a final score of 10-2.
