WC Electric prevails 14-10 in Stittsville

West Carleton Electric blew a 8-2 lead in Wednesday night GOFL play, but managed to come back and win 14-10 over the Stittsville 56ers in the Grove.

Steve Cavanagh had the win, with a save from Jeff Barber. Darren Featherstone had the loss and had relief from Adam Smith.

The 56ers score two in the bottom of the first. Scott Herriot hit an infield single and took second when the throw went into the dugout. Herriot then stole third and took home when the throw to the bag was errant. Then with two out, Scott Jessiman singled and moved to third on Ben Gigliotti's double. When John Craig hit a soft pop up that fell directly between the pitcher and second base, Scott Jessiman scored.

Fitzroy answered back with a big second inning, sending 11 men to the plate and scoring seven runs. However all runs came with two out. Jeff Barber led things off with a single. Neil Murphy laid down a bunt, and reached safely when the throw hit him, allowing Barber to move to third. Murphy then advanced to second on a wild pitch. With Beef Johnson at bat, Barber turned his back when going back to the base and Scott Jessiman threw the ball quickly to third to pick him off for the first out. Johnson walked, then after a strike out, both Johnson and Murphy moved up 60 feet when the third strike evaded the catcher. A clutch double by Jeff Cavanagh scored two runs. Mitch Taylor then walked and Jon Daley stroked an RBI single to score Cavanagh. Andy Barber then walked to load the bases, setting up a grand slam by big brother Derek Barber.

The 'Trics added a run in the third. Beef Johnson walked, then Dave Bahm singled to put runners on the corners. Jeff Cavanagh's hard hit ball to second put Bahm out but allowed Johnson to score.

The home team answered in the top of third. Dan Jessiman singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on brother Scott's double to left. Dan Bradley later drove in S Jess to make it 8-4.

The 56ers battled back in the fourth to tie things at 8-8. Adam Smith hit a solo homerun. Then Ryan Bond singled with one out, and scored on Dan Jessiman's two run shot. Scott Jessiman again doubled (his third hit of the game) and scored on John Craig's RBI single.

Fitzroy regained the lead in the top of the fifth. Beef Johnson singled, then Dave Bahm singled. After a strikeout, a Mitch Taylor walk loaded the bases. Jon Daley's off hand liner to left scored all three runners, but Daley was thrown out attempting to stretch the hit into a triple.

Jeff Barber came in to relieve Steve Cavanagh in the bottom of the frame. Darren Ladouceur led of with a walk. After a strikeout, Scott Herriot singled then Ryan Bond walked to load the bases with one out. Dan Jessiman ripped a ball up the middle - but it went directly into Barber's glove on a bounce, setting up the 1-2-3 double play.

WC added some insurance runs in the sixth. Derek Barber singled, took second on a wild pitch. Jeff Barber's singled put runners on the corners. Jeff stole second. Derek scored on a misplayed grounder off the bat of Beef Johnson, and Dave Bahm and Jeff Cavanagh hit back to back RBI singles. A line drive double play at first base ended the inning.

Stittsville inched closer in the sixth. After two strikeouts, John Craig reached on a single and was scored on Dan Bradley's monstrous homerun. But that was the end of the scoring and the game ended 14-10.
