Softball Canada U21 Junior Nationals
After being delayed two days by rain, the Junior Nationals (U21) in Owen Sound wrapped up yesterday. The playoff games were all five innings to get things completed, with the exception of the final which was seven.
The host Owen Sound Selects won the round robin portion, losing only once to Newfoundland. However, the Newfs beat the hosts in the playoff round twice to take gold. Owen Sound earned silver while the Walkerton Wild were third.
Congratulations to Andy Barber, who plays for West Carleton Electric in the GOFL, on earning tournament all-star honours as a left fielder for Owen Sound. Andy hit very well the entire week and also picked up one win as a pitcher. The Android had key hits in the playoff round including a two run homer in the first playoff off game and a bases loaded double in the semi-final. His stats for the week: 10 games, 11 for 25 (.440), 10 runs scored, three doubles, a homer, nine RBIs, six walks and four stolen bases. Pretty good against the best junior pitching in the country.
