Kars beats Micksburg 5-2

from Chad Milne

Kars Aces 5 Micksburg Twins 2
Kars and Micksburg squared off on a wet and muggy night in Carp on Thursday. Cory Alkerton got the ball for the Aces, while Joran Graham started for the visiting Twins.

Kars got on the board first in this one. Chad Milne lead off the second inning with a single and later advanced to third base on passed balls. After a strikeout, Andy Davey hit a sharp ground ball to the Micksburg first baseman, who threw home to try and get the charging Milne, but with the contact play on, Milne made a nice slide to elude the tag from the Micksburg catcher. Danny Powers then walked, but Graham was able to strike out the next Kars batter to end the inning.

Micksburg answered in the top of the third. Corey Costello drove in Micksburg's first run with a ground out to first. Then Graham helped himself with an RBI single to put the Twins in front 2-1.

The Twins' lead was short-lived as Kars got those two runs right back in the bottom of the third. With one out, Kristian Knapp hit a solo home run to right centre. After a strikeout, Cory Alkerton and Chad Milne both walked, and Alkerton was driven home on a single by Cory Morrison. Graham struck out the next batter to end the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kars got some much needed insurance. With two out and Alkerton on base with a walk, Morrison stroked a two-run homer to left centre. Andy Davey followed with a walk, but another strike out for Graham ended the inning.

Alkerton was able to shut the Twins down in the final two innings, securing the 5-2 victory.
