Stittsville splits Wednesday night doubleheader in Manotick

info from John Craig and Marcel Mondoux

Stittsville 56ers beat Barrhaven Broadway Blues, but lost to the Manotick Taylor's Blitz in GOFL play in Manotick on Wednesday night.

Stittsville 2 Barrhaven 0Adam Smith had the win in this game and Dan Konkle earned a save for the 56ers. Trevor Lahey took the loss.

In the top of the first, Scott Herriot walked, stole second, moved to third on a fielder's choice and took home on a wild pitch.

Barrhaven stranded a runner in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th.

In the sixth, Herriot scored again with a solo homer.

For the bottom of the sixth, Barrhaven threatened as Don Cox walked with one out. Smith left the game and Konkle came in to throw. Two walks later the baes were loaded, but a strike out and ground out ended the inning.

Smith never gave up a hit until the 5th (and it was the only one he gave up), worked 5 and a third inning and walked three and struck out three, earning the Caveman's Choice as player of the game. Konkle worked an inning and two thirds to get the save. Scott Herriot had a great night as well, scoring both Stittsville runs.

Lahey also had a good game, keeping the 56ers bats quiet and striking out five.

In the top of the second, Ben Gigliotti doubled and scored after singles from Darren Ladouceur and Tyler Nystedt to make it 3-2 for Taylor's Blitz.

Stittsville tied it in the third after singles by Dan and Scott Jessiman, followed by a sac bunt by Konkle - Dan scored later on a fielder's choice.

The Blitz bats came alive in the fifth. Mondoux was hit by a pitch, Bowman singled and Derick Bulley hit a 3 run bomb. Konkle left the game and T-Bone Scott came into chuck for Stittsville. Derek Martin hit a solo hot later in the inning to make it 7-3.

Bowman hit a solo shot in sixth scoring Blakely who singled before him, capping the scoring at 9-3 for the home team.
